Privacy Policy

Short version. Where you make a notch is a record of where you have been, so we treat it as yours alone. You can use Notch without an account, and then your tiles never leave your phone. If you sign in, we store your tiles so they follow you to your next phone. That's all we use them for. There are no ads, no analytics, no tracking, and nothing is sold.
This policy covers the Notch iPhone app and this website, both run by Baseline Logic LLC, a Colorado company ("we", "us"). Notch is a Laser Map Studio project.

Using Notch without an account
You do not need an account to make, view or cut a tile. Signed out, your notches and their SVG files are stored only on your phone, and we never receive them.
To draw the map, the app downloads map tiles from the Overture Maps Foundation's public tile host on Amazon Web Services. Like any web server, that host sees your device's IP address and which tiles were requested, which shows roughly which area you are viewing. We don't control or receive those logs.
Location
- Notch asks for your location only while the app is open. It never uses location in the background.
- Your location centres the map and limits where you can notch to about five miles around you.
- Your live location is never sent to us. The only location we ever store is the centre of a tile you chose to save, and only if you are signed in (see below).
- You can turn location off at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Notch.
If you sign in with Apple
Signing in is optional. Its only purpose is to back up your collection and carry it to another device. When you sign in, we store:

| Sign-in sessions | A one-way hash of the token that keeps your phone signed in, and when it was last used. We never store the token itself. |
| Request logs | Our hosting provider keeps ordinary short-lived server logs (such as time, route and error messages) for debugging and abuse prevention. |
We never receive your Apple ID password. The latitude and longitude of a notch is often close to a home address, so we never display it anywhere except to you, in your own collection.
How we use it
- To sign you in and sync your collection between your devices.
- To keep the service working and stop abuse (for example, rate-limiting sign-in attempts).
- To answer you if you contact us.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling or marketing email. We don't sell or rent it, and we don't share it for cross-app tracking. Notch contains no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
Who else sees it
Only the services Notch needs in order to run:
- Apple handles Sign in with Apple and confirms who you are to us.
- Cloudflare hosts our server, database and file storage (Workers, D1 and R2), and this website. They process data on our behalf.
- Overture Maps Foundation / Amazon Web Services serve the map tiles the app displays, as described above. They receive no account data from us.
- Legal requirements. We will disclose information if the law requires it, or where it is needed to protect someone's safety or our legal rights.
SVG files you save or share from the app go wherever you send them. They contain the map and the place name on the tile, plus an attribution line crediting the map data.
How long we keep it

Deleting your data
In the app, open your Collection, find the Signed in section, tap Delete account and confirm. This permanently deletes all your SVG files from our storage, then your notches, sessions and account record. Your phone keeps its own copy of your collection, because deleting the account is not deleting your tiles. You can then remove the app to erase the local copy.
You can also stop Notch's access to your Apple ID in iPhone Settings → your name → Sign in with Apple → Notch.
If you no longer have the app, email us from the address you signed in with (or tell us your relay address) and we'll delete the account by hand.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including under the Colorado Privacy Act, the GDPR or the CCPA, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict how it is processed. We honour these requests for everyone, wherever they live. Email us and we'll reply within 30 days, usually much sooner. If you are in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
We process account data because you asked us to sync your collection (performance of a contract), and request logs to keep the service secure (legitimate interests).
Our servers are run by Cloudflare, which may process data in the United States and other countries where it operates.
Children
Notch is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you think a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
This website
notch.lasermapstudio.com sets no cookies and runs no analytics or trackers. It loads fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when you visit. Cloudflare serves the site and keeps standard short-lived request logs.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top. If the change affects what we collect or how it's shared, we'll also say so in the app before it takes effect.
